WRPS Acquires D&RGW Boxcar 3010...

In October of 2012, Taylor Rush and Jerry Huck traveled to Monte Vista, Colorado to load recently acquired Denver & Rio Grande Western(D&RGW) boxcar number 3010 for shipment to the Sumpter Valley Railroad yards at McEwen, Oregon. The Western Railway Preservation Society (WRPS) had traded two standard gauge passenger cars in Montana for D&RGW boxcar number 3010, D&RGW stock car number 5643, Rio Grande Southern coach number 252, and an unidentified D&RGW flatcar.

Number 3010 in Monte Vista. Apart from trucks, the boxcar is almost fully complete and in very good condition considering it is nearly 110 years old and has been out of service since the 1960's.

The crane is getting in position for the lift.

The boxcar had to be raised high enough for a semi-truck trailer to back under.

Safely set down on the trailer, the boxcar will be secured and readied for its trip to Oregon.
